COFFEE TABLES

Every piece tells a story. What will yours be?

These stunning tables have been lovingly hand tooled to realize the full potential of the beautiful timber by Artisan Geoff Simpson, who loves to create unique pieces filled with history, character & life.

Big Red

This impressive coffee table shows an exceptional colour palette and glorious grain due to age. Finished with Organoil 100% pure natural hard burnishing oil to seal and accentuate the glorious colours and grain patterning. The top was crafted from rescued 300+ year old timber, with book-matched pieces expertly joined on both sides to create the desired width. Geoff personally rescued several large old growth red gums from becoming firewood after they were felled for a new housing estate in Myrtleford. It is a privilege to give new life to this magnificent timber in bespoke pieces of furniture. The legs were crafted from our own Natural Attrition timber range. Bucks Lament was a sizeable 200+ year old red gum which fell into the King River, where it was seasoned by the waters for decades, before being removed around 50 years ago by the River Trust. It then rested, immovable, on the banks of the King River at Bucks Point, until big enough equipment was acquired to move and mill it.

Glass-Top Stump Table

Transformation – from burnt out Grey Box Stump to stunning Bespoke Courtyard Centrepiece. Our client yearned for a piece of the family farm at their inner-city home. The raw stump was brought here for Geoff to mill & finish in preparation for the glass-top crowning glory & the clients are thrilled with the result. Heirloom creations – history, connections & love. What do you yearn for?

Great Australian Bite

Estimated ~300 year old red gum with natural live-edge resembling the drop-off of the Great Australian Bite. The extraordinary grains include birds-eye patina and resin-filled cracks with an astonishing palette of colour due to the age of the timber. Matched with red gum angled legs and finished with high gloss varnish for durability and that gorgeous honey-drip effect over the unique natural live-edges. Lovingly hand tooled to realise the full potential of the beautiful timber by Artisan Geoff Simpson.

Miller Black Coffee Table

In the late 1950’s/early 1960’s teams of Timber Millers toured the floodplains of Oxley in North East Victoria milling red gum timber into 4 x 4 fence posts for sale in Melbourne. In those days red gum was valued more for it’s durability and toughness, rather than it’s exceptional beauty. Consequently, many slabs were left on the river flats, subjected to and moved around by flood waters before being rescued in 2014 by Geoff. Magnificent natural grains and astonishing colour are due to age and exposure to the elements. The Church Pew style legs were crafted from the “black log”, found on our river flats and named for the extraordinary darkness of the timber. The Stringybark stay is well over 100 years old, originally harvested in Moyhu for a great Uncle’s shed, it was later repurposed into our original dairy 90 years ago and is yet again rejuvenated in this beautiful piece full of history, character and life.

Li’l Red Coffee Table

A unique collectors item for just $440.00. Natural Attrition (~200 year old) Red Box timber (sourced right here), supported by gorgeous repurposed vintage (circa 1900’s) cast iron spoke wheel from a hay binder. Measuring 41cm in height, 80cm in length, 45cm top width & 64cm base width.

Kyoto Coffee Table

The latest creation from the Miller Slab Collection, this stunning Kyoto Coffee Table crafted by Geoff Simpson who loves to create a fusion with timber and recycled metal resulting in unique pieces filled with history, character and life. The exquisitely weathered and aged slab top has been hand-finished with natural bees wax revealing an astonishing palette of red gum colour variations from light to dark. The Kyoto-design inspired magazine-rack of hand-forged steel springs (horse-drawn gig circa 1920’s) and footings (1950’s tray-truck) contrasts elegantly with the exquisite lines of the perfectly book-matched pedestal end legs.

Dragons Lair

The ‘Dragon’s Lair’ Slab came from the ‘Boar Tree’ on our property, estimated be ~200 years old. ~Forty years ago one limb broke off leaving a small stub which resembles the snout of a Boar. The stand was crafted from a beautiful red gum tree root with a natural cradle-like centre from our property. Completing our Clients vision of a Birthday gift for her Dragon-loving daughter is the Gothic-style footing, a repurposed wire-spinner circa 1970’s from Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard.

Lunar Landing

Another unique creation from the ‘Boar Tree’  and the perfect gift to spoil yourself or someone you love at $440.00. The stand has been repurposed from vintage horse drawn equipment. Specifically the legs from the under-carriage seat supports of a Horse Gig circa 1900’s. Measurements: Height 24cm; Length 79cm; Width 52cm/31cm at widest & narrowest points. This stunning table has been lovingly hand tooled to realize the full potential of the beautiful timber, by Artisan Geoff Simpson who loves to create a fusion with timber and recycled metal resulting in unique pieces filled with history, character & life.

‘Wetlands – Lifeblood’

This piece was a very well received centrepiece for GANEAA’s ‘Where The Rivers Meet’ exhibition at the Wangaratta Art Gallery in 2017. When the rivers meet in flood they create wetlands which bring life and abundance, sustain the floodplain flora and fauna and quench a parched landscape, preserving life throughout the next dry spell. Fiddle back River Red Gum and Resin with clear varnish finish. Estimated 300 years old and milled by Timber Millers in 1950’s at Poodumbia (King River) in Oxley. A divinely unique table top for the discerning collector.
