DINING TABLES
Every piece tells a story. What will yours be?
These stunning tables have been lovingly hand tooled to realize the full potential of the beautiful timber by Artisan Geoff Simpson, who loves to create unique pieces filled with history, character & life.
Red Box Dining Table
Divine results from a labour of love to carefully fill the flaws in a magnificent rescued Red Box slab. The legs were handcrafted after a painstaking search for timber to seamlessly match the table top. Countless hours of sanding, polishing & finishing with Organoil hard burnishing oil. Rewardingly worth all the care and effort for this striking red box dining table featuring extraordinary natural & live edge detail, glorious grains and radiant colour palette.
Lightwood Dining Table
A long term project, mainly due to the fragility of the timber – Lightwood (acacia implexa) or hickory wattle. It’s incredibly hard to get solid pieces of this glorious timber, and just when you think you have, a new fissure opens. The timber grew and died naturally on the clients’ property. They requested a dining table be crafted from it, with the legs displaying the intricate gnarling of this fascinating timber. Custom designed and crafted to fit existing limited space, sitting flush against a wall on one side, with curved front edges allowing for door clearance.
Outdoor Parquetry Dining Table
Our Client supplied us with pink red gum rounds from their own property which Geoff shaped into squares using a bandsaw. The paler pink colour contrasts beautifully with the darker red gum timber frame and legs from our own property which display delightful fiddleback patina. Finished with outdoor furniture oil to protect from the elements.
Jigsaw Dining Table
A loving and lasting tribute to a loved one’s treasured timber collection, this family heirloom table was painstakingly pieced together from a jigsaw of planks, boards and varying sized slabs. A challenge to be sure, but one Geoff was honoured to have been entrusted with. The pieces were placed and then planed in the Lucas Mill. The magnificent legs were crafted from reclaimed red gum timbers from an old wooden bridge across Hurdle Creek Bobinawarrah. The rail timber was part of the treasured timber collection and the two were bonded together with interlocking double bridle joints for stability. Dowel was added for extra support because that table top weighs a ton!
Kauri Pine Dining Table
One of Geoff’s first forays into furniture making was our own beautiful kauri pine dining table. Great Uncle Alex was a Baker in Beechworth, then Wandong, before opening a successful business (Simpson’s Fresh Bakery) in 1926 at 209 Bay Street North Brighton in Melbourne. He had the contract to supply bread to the Kew Asylum and owned the double story building which comprised 3 shops with a large yard at the rear for 3 horse drawn delivery carts. Our table top utilises recycled timbers from a circa 1900’s Baker’s Trough of Uncle Alex’s, whilst the turned kauri pine legs were recycled from another table of the same era. The beautiful old timbers are admired by all, and a great talking point with original notches retained as well as natural distressing provided by mice scratching to gain access to the dough! History, character and family ties all in one beautiful package.
Hoop Leg Red Box Dining Table
Magnificent rescued Red Box slab featuring extraordinary natural and live edge detail, glorious grains and radiant colour palette. Countless hours of sanding and buffing before finishing with Rubio Monocoat oil. The sleek, solid steel hoop legs contrast perfectly with the raw natural beauty of the timber.
Yellow Box Dining Table
The glorious gold and grains of Yellow Box (Eucalyptus Melliodora) displaying a wide variety of attractive figuring and finished with burnishing oil. Our Client commissioned the table top and sourced their own legs.
